My Homemade dog food ingredients list
The first step is gathering all the ingredients. For my homemade dog food, I use minced meat, frozen vegetables (pumpkin, zucchini and broccoli), whole-grain rice and canned sardines.
Here is a little more about the nutritional benefits of the Mediterranean dog food ingredients I use:
- Minced meat: A source of high-quality protein, which helps maintain muscle mass and supports the body's growth and repair processes. Depending on the type of meat, it can also provide iron, zinc and B vitamins, including vitamin B12.
- Pumpkin: Provides dietary fibre, which can support normal digestion, as well as beta-carotene, which the body can convert into vitamin A.
- Zucchini: A low-calorie vegetable containing water, fibre and small amounts of vitamins such as vitamin C and vitamin B6.
- Broccoli: Provides fibre and nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin K and folate.
- Whole-grain (brown) rice: Provides carbohydrates for energy, along with fibre and some B vitamins and minerals.
- Canned sardines: Supply protein and omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA. Sardines with edible bones can also provide calcium, while the fish itself provides nutrients such as vitamin B12 and selenium.
These ingredients give my cooking routine a Mediterranean diet feel, with meat, fish, grains and vegetables all in the mix. However, their nutritional benefits depend on the quantities used, and the combination alone does not necessarily provide everything a dog needs for a complete and balanced diet.
